The Pool Is Open

Caribbean Pools stopped by and opened our pool today. They open the pool for you once as part of the installation package. It took two guys all of about 15 minutes. Here's what they did—I'm documenting it here so I can open the pool myself next year.
  • Removed safety cover; rolled it up
  • Re-installed step ladder in deep end (requires tightening of hex nut to secure)
  • Re-installed railing at shallow end, near stairs
  • Removed white twist-off plugs that sealed the lines running to the pool from the pump/filter.
  • Re-installed aerators in valves near pool steps
  • Added 5G chlorine
  • Added 1G algacide
  • Primed pump by opening it and adding a few quarts pool water
  • Turned filter to Filter setting. Turned on pump.
After running the pump for 72 hours, I will add 150 LB (3 bags) of plain old table salt, the same salt I add to my water softener. After adding the salt, I will run the pump and chlorinator on their regular schedule of 8-10 hrs per day.

I was told to shock the pool w/chlorine at least one more time during the year and add salt as needed.

Certificate in Human-Computer Interaction

Certificate in Human-Computer Interaction

CERTIFICATE IN HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION

Program Description

Building on a base of experience and expertise, the Department of Language, Literature, and Communication is proud to offer a graduate level Certificate in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) for distance learning students. As the computer industry has matured, the number of software and hardware products has greatly increased and the release time has shortened considerably. These trends have extended computer use beyond a small cadre of specialists to much of the public, and from a small number of calculation-intensive operations to a wide range of computer and communication tasks.

This program, designed in cooperation with industry experts, provides those involved in the design of human-computer interactions with the knowledge and skills they will need to create new and better ways for people to communicate with and through computers. The certificate, comprised of four graduate courses, provides an overview of HCI usability, in-depth work in electronic coaching systems, communication design for the World Wide Web, and a capstone design experience.

Winecrafts Winemaking Manual

Winecrafts Winemaking Manual

Saratoga WineCrafts is a consortium of amateur wine makers based in Saratoga County, New York. The group can trace it’s origins to 1998, when a few friends and family members made some wine from grapes grown in the Finger Lakes. Over the years, the group has grown to its present size. Collectively Saratoga WineCrafts makes approximately 1500 bottles of wine per year. It has maintained its status as an amateur wine making group by decentralizing the overall winemaking process. While members share the use of major equipment, the wine itself is made by sub-groups in the cellars and garages of members homes with the guidance of an experienced amateur winemaker – that’s me - and this book is a collective documentation of that advice.
